Weight (the force an object pushes on the Earth) is measured in Newtons, while Mass (the amount of a substance) is measured in kilograms

Stewart B's answer is correct. I just wanted to add that the metric system in casual usage often uses kilograms or grams when talking about weight. Mass can be converted to weight easily by multiplying mass by the acceleration of gravity on the earth's surface (about 9.8 meters per second squared). Because of this, people often neglect the conversion and just refer to a person's weight as something like 74 kg.

In the English measurement system, pounds is a unit of weight, not mass, and the conversion has to go in the opposite direction.
