I have a landrover discovery and all of a sudden, about 4 days ago, there was this really REALLY bad stink in there! It is horrendous and it smells like we have a dead body in there ( no there is not one). We have tried looking for any clue as to what this stink could be, and cannot find anything, febreeze did nothing, there are leather seats, and we have looked under them and nothing has been spilt in the car.
Getting in the car is like torture, everyone starts heaving........HELP, what can this be??

Serious answers only please!

Seriously, bast*rds did that to me on my wedding day, tied a kipper to the exhaust. The very thought's making my eyes water now!

Apart from that, you cat converter can stink like rotten eggs but that should go away as it warms up. You may well have something deceased somewhere.

Oh dear! I had this once! Turned our to be a dead mouse in the heater intake. I only figured it out because it got worse when I put the fans on!

If it's a rotten egg smell, it'll probably be your cat, but they're not normally that bad.

It's not running LPG is it? That stinks if fumes get in the cabin.

Some years ago my ex-wife ran over a buzzard on the road. talk about STINK...just thinking about it makes my stomach start to feel bad.....had to have the entire car, inside and out steam cleaned before I could get rid of the odor...I'm a Mortician, and I have smelled some pretty foul things...No pun intended....but that was the worst ever.

If you can't find the source of the smell on your own I would suggest taking it to get detailed. Get it cleaned inside and out and tell them to lift the car (can be done at a mechanics shop) to check for anything under the hood.

After a good carpet shampoo at the car wash, buy a couple of those incredible unscented carbon odor absorbers they sell for refrigerators in the kitchen stores. I've tried lots of odor absorbers and even gross fragrances, but nothing works even close to a product called Fridge -It carbon odor absorbers. It's a little purple cube sold in stores like walmart and linens and things in the kitchen gadgets section. Not expensive and it works great for eliminating all types of odors. I use them everywhere including my car.

Have you checked in and around the engine and wheel arches, sometimes cats or other animals can get up inside the body of the car. Something could have become trapped and died.

Have you looked under the bonnet- mice and rats build nests in engines at this time of year! maybe one has died and the smell is coming in through the air vents?

Check the under carriage, you may have a dead animal wedged in there some where.
