A teacher is someone that imparts knowledge to us we are able to use in our every-day lives. A teacher can be anyone, but we normally think of them as someone that went to school to be trained to impart book learning....or what is the accepted norm for a government sponsored program of learning. Actually your typical school teachers do not impart practicable knowledge, but a general overview of many subjects. You will soon learn that is just the foundation of your lifetime of learning. Every experience, every person you meet, and every situation you encounter teaches you a little something. Whether you learn from it is up to you, just as sitting in a classroom and learning, or not, the lessons taught. You are misled by teachers that think what is written down is gospel or truth, when much is just perspective of the author of the book or topic.

There are two types of teachers, the sage on the stage and the guide on the side. The sage teacher is the one that tells you everything you need to know , you take notes and then take in as much as you can - he or she is the expert and sometimes we all need the expert voice. The guide teacher is the one that helps you find the knowledge you need, more than teaching a subject he or she teaches you how to learn and come to your own knowledge, again an important concept as we never stop learning long after we stop having formal teachers. Both types of teachers have the ability to mislead, but if you look at the vast number of teachers in the world you will realize proportionately very few do. We hear about them, certainly but we never hear that millions of teachers everyday have guided and helped students in a positive way - the world takes that for granted.

I am a teacher--this is my 8th year in the classroom. In the these past 8 years I have come to realize that teachers don't change lives UNLESS the student--no matter what age--WANTS it to. I don't think teachers "take us to light" and I don't think teachers "mislead" either. Its all up to the student. Only you can change you.

Anymore, teachers have very little influence, if any. Teaching is an effort in futility because students don't WANT change. Change take effort but all we get is apathy.
