I am thinking of leaving my job because I think my boss bullies me. He leaves post-it notes on my monitor saying "Mr Fatlips" or "Chunky Cow Man". I often find rusty nails and broken glass on my chair. He also once grated cheese on my head and rubbed it in while shouting "Look at the cheesy little spider!"

ahhh no this is not bullying! your boss is in an ethnic minority of people from lower Overthereland.
these greetings are only bestowed upon the great and respected of their tribes. 'Chunky Cow Man' actually refers to a spirit of theirs and 'cheesy little spider' whilst putting cheese on the head of a person denotes them as a warrior.
enjoy this whilst it lasts! for they are also cannibals.

Yeah I would leave, but make sure you found another job first because these days its hard to find a job. I wouldn't take it. Have you told him to stop? Is there someone else above your boss that you can report this to? No one should have to put up with that BS that just isn't right. I wish you the best of luck. Find another job.

Be for real. You are crazy to have taken the first harassment. You shouldn't be scared to report this immediately. You have to take action. This bully probably does this t everyone. Hey if you want revenge start picking with him. If you make good money stay and fight it if not move on. But you still report him whether if you want to stay or not. Go to your legal aid and they will help.

Get evidence take pictures on your mobile this is harassment
Go to your human resources person or someone like that if it doesn`t stop phone citizen`s advice they will be really helpful

That is bullying, Are you in a union if so take it up with them or go to a higher manager. Have you asked him why he is doing this. see a solicitor or go to the CAB

That's a very serious. You should leave right away unless you like to be teased by him. I would refer the case to the HR department or the union, if he hurts me physically. that's a crime!
