I used to sell PC's and other electronic stuff and I would do all the research and could field almost any question about the stuff I was selling. One would think that because I did that for a living I was sure about what I was talking about.

I hate it even more when you explain something complicated to someone and they respond by saying "what" or "sorry, I wasn't listening".

A great deal depends upon how you regard the question. It may be that the customer is contemplating spending a great deal of money and wants to be certain. It's more a case of the customer questioning the wisdom of making the purchase than questioning your expertise. The customer probably wants to be more comfortable with the purchase. If you imagine yourself in the customer's position, you might be more inclined to feel sympathetic towards him or her than to feel "ticked off" at his or her question.

It might even make you a more successful salesperson.

Questions like that are actually directed within. It is a way of talking yourself into accepting knowledge from another. Don't take it personally.

Sometimes yes. People often ask "Are you sure?" to get a feel for your level of certainty, this is not a reflection on you, but comes from their experiences with other people.

You would be surprised at the number of people selling stuff, that have no idea what they are talking about.

I become really angry and usually come back with something like "If you don't want to believe what I'm saying then why did you ask me" or "Don't ask me anything anymore if you aren't going to listen to what I have to say"

yeah sort of. It depends if they really trust you or not. And if you don`t seem like that type of person to say that.

If you're self-confident -- in other words, if you truly are "sure" -- why would such a question bother you?
