LBJ - Lyndon Baines Johnson

It was Friday April 4, 1968. If you're a Canadian, then it was also the date of the start of the Liberal Leadership convention that elected Pierre Trudeau to lead the party and therefore the county.

I remember those television images so very well. I was watching the convention coverage. The director had just switched the feed to the camera that was showing then PM Pearson and his wife entering the building, when it was interrupted by a news bulletin. My parent's first reaction, after seeing that news, was to call a cousin in Rochester (NY), whose husband was in the National Guard. There were riots in most cities across the US.

It took a while to capture James Earl Ray. In fact, Coretta Scott King was notified that he had been captured as she left the cathedral after the funeral service for Robert Kennedy.
