I like Lanee (also can spell Laine, Lanie). I knew one in elementary school in the 70's and haven't heard it since.
Are you thinking of it for a first or second name? Really depends on your surname too.
I usually think that a somewhat different name goes best with a more common name. Like Lanee Elizabeth, or Lanee Marie, etc. I also think it might be a nick-name for Elaine, which is also lovely, and could expand your options.
Best of luck!

Go to your local Library and find a "Name Book" I had a really good one, and it told the meaning of the names, and where they derived from....If I had a girl, she was going to be named Ariana Dorsey...it meant Silvery, sweet and delightful.....but I had a boy, and we named him Quentin Jared Adam...I did not choose his name...his father, paternal Grandmother, and Paternal Grandfather named him....they said I could choos a name too, but I felt 3 names were enough for that little baby boy, even though he weighed almost 9 lbs at birth....His name means 5th descendant, Lover of the Outdoors, and his middle name is the same initials of his father....he wa the 5th male child in his Grandfather's direct line, and the only surviving male, other than his father....he was also his father's 5th child, and only surviving son, and we all love to play outdoors...fishing, swimming, etc How could I argue about the name...and at the time it was unusual too.....it's really interesting research, and there were more names than I ever knew existed......You have one name picked, just go thru and write down all of the names that sound good with it, then eliminate.......it works! I always liked the name Sarah, and it sounds good with Lanee'

Do you pronounce Lanee' as Lane?
I've chosen Kaydence Layne for a girl. I think it sounds wonderful together.

If you must use this name (it is nice of you to honour your friend, but you could just make her the Godmother too), please do not spell it with an apostrophe on the end of it. It would look much better accented such as Lanée. An apostrophe in a name makes no sense at all.
