Some interesting wisdom.

Adlai Stevenson:
I have been thinking that I would make a proposition to my Republican friends... that if they will stop telling lies about the Democrats, we will stop telling the truth about them. [1952]

Aristotle:
Of all the varieties of virtues, liberalism is the most beloved.

Bertrand Russell :
The essence of the Liberal outlook lies not in what opinions are held, but in how they are held: instead of being held dogmatically, they are held tentatively, and with a consciousness that new evidence may at any moment lead to their abandonment

George Washington:
As Mankind becomes more liberal, they will be more apt to allow that all those who conduct themselves as worthy members of the community are equally entitled to the protections of civil government. I hope ever to see America among the foremost nations of justice and liberality.

John Adams:
Laws for the liberal education of youth, especially for the lower classes of people, are so extremely wise and useful that to a humane and generous mind, no expense for this purpose would be thought extravagant.

John F. Kennedy:
What do our opponents mean when they apply to us the label "Liberal?" If by "Liberal" they mean, as they want people to believe, someone who is soft in his policies abroad, who is against local government, and who is unconcerned with the taxpayer's dollar, then ... we are not that kind of "Liberal." But if by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people -- their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties -- someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal."

Mort Sahl:
Liberals feel unworthy of their possessions. Conservatives feel they deserve everything they've stolen.

Wendy Kaminer:
A liberal is a conservative who's been arrested. A conservative is a liberal who's been mugged.

I didn't see any of our freedoms being taken away until Bush came into power. He used the 9/11 attacks as an excuse to take away our personal freedoms and launch his attack on Iraq with no basis for the invasion.

Liberals just want freedom from irrational, ineffective policies. It is revealing that so many conservatives fear that.
