Are there programs to assist ex cons obtain employment?

I have a friend who was has a record and is moving to VA. He has always had trouble getting a job for obvious reasons. Are there special programs for people like him?

Thats a great question, but to my knowledge there isn't. My suggestion would be for him to check with the unemployment agency, to get their opinion. If they have a felony, forget about working for the state, law enforcement or the government in anyway. I feel sorry for the ones who are felons that did 10+ years or so, cause once they do get out, it's so hard for them to make it out in the world with a felony charge, and without a job many of them revert back to their old ways.
