My car runs fine whenever i am driving for long distances but whenever i stop, it does not start. The engine just turns over. Also whenever I am idling the car seems like it wants to stop. It sort of like sputters. Can someone please share info of what the problem may be?

A fuel filter could be the problem, but it is more likely that you are having an ignition problem, and a plug is either not firing, or firing out of sequence. Change your plugs, make sure your plug wires are going to the correct cylinder, and that they make good contact with the plugs, and make sure your plugs are well connected at the distributor. You may have a bad plug, a bad plug cable, water in the distributor, or a valve cover gasket that is allowing oil into a cylinder. If it is the latter, one of the plugs you pull should have oil all over the bottom of it.

If it is the fuel filter, your engine is starved for gas so you can expect stalling, hard starting, sputtering and those sort of symptoms. If in doubt, change the filter. They are cheap and it never hurts to have a fresh one in there.

It won't want to accelerate hard, or run good at high speeds. If there's any doubt, change the filter. They are cheap!
