She shouldn't get very much grain, and no treats at all. I have heard of some berries a friend was feeding her Cushings pony, I don't remember what they were called, but they were all-natural and supposed to help with something. Ask your vet if you think you have found something.

If she has Cushings, you should start her on pergolide- the longer you wait, the more the cushings will advance. Some horses can be left untreated for a while, but eventually they get worse as well.
All of the horses at the stable I work at with cushings get about 4 cups senior pelleted feed AM and PM with the pergolide mixed in. W/ one gelding who has had it for 5 yrs... Thanks to the early treatment, you can not tell he has cushings anymore- all of the symptoms/signs decreased. The owner took him off the meds for 1 month- all of the signs came back and he went downhill pretty quickly.

Cushings needs to be treated with meds-Pergolide. Feed as normal and treats grain etc as normal. Just means the gland isn't functioning correctly so your horse may gain weight or loose weight, has a hard time shedding winter coat and may even get a little "bug-eyed" the longer you wait to put her on meds. the sooner the better and they can live long healthy lives on pergolide and it's easy to give and fairly inexpensive. good luck

I owned a horse with cushings. Watch her weight closely. Only fruit for treats. DO NOT feed flax seed. It has been proven to cause cushings.

Your horse needs to be on Pergolide. It's your responsibility as a horse owner to take care of her. You don't get to decide which problems get treatment and which ones don't. Pergolide is $85 where I work and it comes in liquid, cookie or powder form. Good luck!!

my old girl got this condition to!
i always fed her as normal, i don't think that there is anything food wise that can hurt them but do check with the vet!
i just made sure that she was on Min's and vits and carried on as normal. she had arthritis so i had her on devils claw( natural painkiller)but nothing else. the only other thing that i had to do was have her clipped all year as she was still in work.
but you may not need to but something to think about.
good luck!

It's best to call the vet and ask this question.
