(3x / y) * (y + 1/x)
= (3x / y) * y + (3x / y) * (1/x)
= (3x / y) * y + (3x / y) / x
= 3x*(y / y) + 3/y * (x/x)
= 3x + 3/y
= 3( x + 1/y )

Multiply numerator and denominator:

(3xy + 3x)/xy

You could factor a 3x out of the equaton, but that wouldn't serve any real purpose in simplifying.
