MY ANSWER
I help frustrated people all the time. I can't solve thier problems. I don't always know the best advice. I think they benefit from just having someone non-judgemental to talk to. They usually walk away in a calmer state of mind.

We are all confronted with negative experiences. If we can find a minute positive in the negativity, (even if it is only a lesson well-learned), the negativity can be turned into a positive experience. THE SUN WILL SHINE TOMORROW!

For me , it's hard to personally say but let me take a shot in the dark. I'm alot like you , I try to solve everyones problems , and here's the problem ....... I absorb their problems and it ends up biting me in the keister.

Here's my situation where I turned a negative into a positive.... my ex had broken up with me 6 months ago over a lie ,I was devastated over it for the whole 6 months , and now found someone else and happier than heck.

Anyways , when you try to solve someone's problems ... remember that we're talking about people here , and that what you ask them to do is not taken as absolute. Also I loved how you said that they benefit from someone non-judgemental to talk to ... a better fitting word would be " unbiased"-> you're neither for , nor against the decisions they make ...

Deciding to get some help nearly 8 long years after a rape. I never noticed how I had changed and that my view on life was so hollow. Stepping back and seeing that changed me enough to finally ask for the help I needed.

And in fact I am now grateful that happened, becuase if that is the darkest my life can be? Then I know I can survive anyhting!

I got put in a rehab when I was 15 and that was pretty miserable for a long time, but I turned it positive just by realizing that I wanted to feel better.
