Personally, I don't eat steak. However, I use a fork for rice or chopsticks, depending on what type of rice I'm being served. Sushi style rice is very sticky and works well with chopsticks. Jasmine style rice seems to clump less and for that, I would use a fork.

In the US, and in the rest of the civilized world, a plate of steak and rice would involve a steak (ribeye is good), with a portion of rice to the side of it.

One takes a sharp table knife and holds the part of the steak they plan to put in their mouth with a fork, then cut the small piece off with the knife.

They then put the small piece of steak in their mouth, and will eat a forkful of rice. Repeat process.

I use a fork to eat my rice unless there is a spoon available. Usually, there is not so I have learned to work with just the fork and knife.

We still use chop sticks for the rice, it's really not that difficult to do. Umm there isn't too much details to give. Just clump up the rice and pick it up like anything else...
