Growing up , we were very poor. My mom struggled as a single parent and things were very tight budget wise. She grabbed life by the boot straps and put herself through college with the help of financial aide. by the time i was 16 she had graduated with honors and the money was good! but in my adult life i still have the cutting coupon~searching for the best sales (food and clothing)~ electronics ect...mentality....and its nice to look at the bank account and see a few emergency dollars in there.... so to answer your question I have had experiences in my life that make me the way i am, but i hope to never be in the position to have my kids be hungry

Well when I was 15 I moved out of my Moms and went to live with my auntie to help sort my life out. When I was 17, I came back to the city and got my own apartment and a job. In the beginning I was having trouble making ends meet and I had hardly any food in my place. I called my Moms to ask if I could come over and eat and my Mom wasn't home and my brother said No and hung up the phone. A few days later I called again and my Mom answered and I said I haven't really eaten in a few days and she asked why I didn't come over and I told her what my brother did. He got in big ****. Before I called her I had a mustard sandwich...it was like a ham sandwich without the ham.

Things have gotten much better financially and even though there's been a few times where I've asked my Mom to help me out, I pretty much always have food to eat now. I will never let anyone go hungry after that experience. I donate to food banks, buy people a hot dog on the street and volunteered at a shelter this past holiday season.

Once I experience something that touches me personally, I always want to help so other don't need to go through it.

Yes. I have been a single Mom with small children and gone through periods of time where I worried non-stop about our food, and especially milk, lasting long enough. I don't have to worry so much anymore but it's a habit that I haven't broken.I check the amount of milk just about everytime I open the fridge!

Not all the time, but once a month, just before payday, it occurs to me that I spent all my money on alcohol and that I should have bought some clothes, and that I need to go food shopping
