TV is much more effective for brainwashing and you may start at earlier age.
In order that brainwashing is properly done you also must have already brainwashed parents.
All developed countries have responsible governments that brainwash for generations. Therefore you also have teachers that already are brainwashed.

Don't think that brainwashing is a new invention. Its done since the rise of civilization. Just the technology advanced.

I think you have it backwards. Schools are not the place to be teaching morals to our children. The morals, and actions, that our children have come from watching us interact with one another. We, as parents, have the responsibility to teach our children to be better than greedy and selfish. Does this take energy and time, you bet it does. Do we have to be tough on our children, yes, but most importantly we have to show them that they are loved and can excel in life.
My wife and I adopted our two children when they were 5 and 4. They came from a drug home where they were put in a room and left there. They would come out at night and eat food from the floor. When we got them they were not even potty trained, and couldn't put a sentence together. We have worked very hard to teach them right from wrong, and get them up and running. The school system in our town has been very supportive and our children are starting to do well in school.
The hardest thing we have had to teach our children is that there are natural consequences for every action. There is no where else that children can learn this lesson if they did not learn it at home. So before you bash the school system, start by looking at the parents of the children.

Schools are not totally to be blamed for the selfishness and shallow thinking of many people that we come across.

Parents, friends and the media play a very large part in moulding society's thinking and culture. Sometimes, schools are too obsessed with churning good results and miss out on other important areas like values and character education.

Sure, schools have a large part to play , but so do parents, friends and the media.

I think schools teach your children, not be greedy and do some things for themselves. I believe it is the family that has brain washed the children, and because the babysitter in some families are a televison, so that is all the children know. And, in some families the mother usually does everything for the children, and some children have more then one person to do things for them.

Well schools definitely play a part, as do parents, peers, the media, society as a whole. Hence the saying "it takes a village to raise a child." Children are greatly influenced by those around them. I don't think the blame can be placed solely on schools, no.

It is not the schools that brainwash children. Their parents should be doing the raising not the school, the school is only there to educate them.
parents (or guardians) are responsible for teaching children manners, values, right from wrong, how to behave and how not to behave, what's important in life and what's not.
I didn't learn any of those things from school I got them from my parents. Yes the friends I had in school also contributed to that a little but thanks to the values and guidelines my parents gave me I picked friends with similar values who could give me advice and get it from me.
I think it is just too easy for parents to stand back and expect the schools to raise their children and when they don't, blame the schools for how their children tern out.

I have always thought that the purpose of publicly-funded education is to turn out productive adults who will further the economic growth of the country, who will be upstanding members of the community, and who will have mastered the art of self-reliance.

When parents reneged on their duties of instilling proper values needed to achieve these goals, it fell to the schools to pick up the slack. Far too much is expected of schools today and they spend far too much time deflecting criticism and defending themselves against litigious parents who feel their darlings can do no wrong.

We reared five and occasionally allowed them to wallow in the resujlts of their bad decisions...insurance that they wouldn't repeat their mistakes.

If you give a Knife to 10 people - every body will not use it for the same purpose or in the same way. It depends on their intuition about what to do / how to do. The same logic will apply to the education system / schools.
