This really makes it an interesting discussion. I was raised between 1964 and 1991 in old good Germany. Germany back than was and still is mostly patriarchy. Meaning the man rule in our families. And spanking and corpel punishment went on a daily basis. My dad too spanked me when it was necessary to discipline me. I thought back than, why he is using tools for that ? why is he doing it at all. But it helped me and hasn't hurt nor has it killed me. I became a good person. Honestly, I do not believe in hurting nor spanking a child. But when government takes away the ability for parents to properly raise their children, what other needs are going to be out there for us parents to discipline our children? Like many of you're stating, it would be a chaotic situation. Children would grow up wild, making false accusations once they are pissed off towards their parents. It's a sad state of affair that the government must be involved in everything in society now-a-days.

I think it it is sad when the government says that we aren't able to parent our children. No wonder we have metal detectors in our schools now. I never saw that growing up. Our youth is out of control and this is just going to make it worse.

'rear' our children..and education helps. But in a day when people value going to war over diplomacy, that is hard to sell...government should have no say in parenting, unless the child needs to be protected. And I am wondering what that will do to their judicial system when children start bogging down the system with false complaints, and parents are arrested and children put into foster care for breaking that law? I would have to read the language on this to have a real opinion...does it outlaw ALL spanking? Or just using a weapon in the spanking? Yeah, too many unknowns. But it is possible to discipline children without using physicality, especially if you are trying to teach your children to 'use their words, and not their fists'

well.. although I do agree that the government is going too far into personal business on that one.. if it reads like I see from you.. there are many, many other proven techniques for raising children, and most children respond very well to them. the biggest problem is that most people raise their children how they were raised.. with no education of another way.. if it weren't for the fact that I work in an early childhood field I wouldn't know any different... parenthood is the most important job you will ever have.. and the only one you don't get training for.. it's sad.

It's all part of the slow, steady march to transfer the raising of children from the family to the state. They want state-sponsored pre-school and day care, too, so the indoctrination process can begin even earlier. Kind of like the Young Pioneers were in the old Soviet Union.

Just watch... not too far down the line.. bringing up your children in your own faith will be considered "abuse" or a hate crime, if your faith instills values that are contrary to the PC agenda.

Physical abuse is always the government's business.
Physical abuse to a child or to the elderly is a disgrace.

DO YOU WANT SOMEONE WHO IS 4 TO 5 TIMES YOUR HEIGHT, SIZE, AND WEIGHT to SLAP YOU, HIT YOU, OR PICK UP AN INSTRUMENT (BELT, STICK OR OTHER), AND PUT WELTS, AND MARKS ON YOU BECAUSE YOU DON'T DO WHAT THEY SAY?

Think of the size of a child at 3, 5, 7 - and think of the size of an adult and the power of a hit that the adult has.

Don't you think the adult has to control the anger and power that they possess, and not hit a child who has no capability to hit back.

Why teach our children violence, by physically abusing them?

Why not just open the door and let them leave?

Which is humane?

Neither in my book, as children have no way to stop us if we let our anger rule, nor do the elderly.
I believe someday we are judged by how we treat the weakest part of our society.

Raising a child has nothing to do with raising our hands to hit, smack, spank or abuse them. There are better ways to deal with raising a child, and as the "Super Nanny" programs on tv show us, hitting is never right, as it teaches them to hit other children, and to be out of control.

GOD bless us one and all, always

I'm not a firm believer in hitting,But if the fear is not there than a kid will run wild, they have to know there is some penalty for thier actions.A few months back me and my 18 year son got into an arguement and he said F--- you. 3 seconds later he was lying on the floor with a baseball size knot on his forehead. I felt like Sh-- ,But he hasn't even thought of saying that to me again. It's a respect thing,Next time he will think before he opens his mouth and shows disrespect to me or anyone else

Just another way to make the common man a criminal.
As Hilary said: IT TAKES A VILLAGE
The government wants to be the one to raise your children. They know just what your child needs

Oh so spanking your child will make them listen to you?

I mean if you want to spank your child that is your choice, but seriously, not something I would ever do.
Some parents take spanking way to far, a swat on the butt fine, but some parents do abuse the whole spanking thing.

Yes, I agree with you. I want a strong national government to avoid chaos, but they have went a little too far. Not only is that overstepping the right or parents bu that is defying the bible. But, like most governments who cares about the bible......well honestly i do but apparently not them.
