Having watched big brother I cannot comprehend how stupid Jade, Danielle and Jades backward boyfried really are. It's the 21st century and we live in an educated, capitalist society where people like Jade and her boyfriend still struggle with the idea of geographic location, spelling, mathematics and basic science. Why is this? Civilisations that existed 4,000 years ago are, mentally, more advanced than these people and, no doubt, others like them.

Because it's "trendy". It's cool to "not know".

It makes me wonder whether the majority of humans just aren't too bright, and the few that are are controlling most everything. The others, I'm guessing, are reaping the benefits of the smarter ones. Could be how those civs you mentioned seemed more advanced. Ours probably does as well, but it's due to the smarter few. And to the gal above me, it is technically spelled "civilisations." That's the continental spelling, and the one my mother taught me (as she was taught by her Irish grandfather to read, write and spell before she went to school.) As a result, I was born and raised in the US, but I use the continental spellings (colour, favourite and civilisation if you get what I mean.)

Most humans are average or a bit below average when it comes to IQ.

I think you've raised a very good question for debate! How can ya not get sucked into it if it's being discussed from downing street to my local bar?!? I mean, every channel and every respectable journalist/newsreader was talking about it!?! I think it just shows that Jade goody (whatever her name is) is for real and there ARE really ppl like that walking this earth. Some say she's 'harmless entertainment' - hmmmm...

UK: The UK have always had idiot millionaires - just think of all the hereditary Lords. Why should a few more make any difference. The British public put them where they are and now seem surprised when such things as in Big Brother are said and done..........

you have to blame the school systems. i graduated from fairfax county in 2000. we're supposed to be one of the best counties with the hardest grading scales (at least when i went to school). and i can tell you that never once did we learn where countries were, nor what most of the countries were, and we never learned what the state captials were. spelling wasnt bothered with after 6th grade either. we have spell check, so why bother? as for math, i always had great math teachers, and for the most part, science was all just lecture, and most people need to learn hands-on.

so you cant blame the kids if they just arent taught it.

I didn't see big brother in UK, but it was mentioned in the news, here in Slovenia. I can only say that we all have to condemn aggression and racist talking in our society. Something similar happened here in Slovenia were people chased away from their home a Gypsy family. Lots of people (some of my friends as well) were talking bad things about those family and something like "we have to exile them all from our country". I openly said to all racist people (my friends as well) that I don't want to keep company with someone so aggressive and racist. It is their decision to change or I can find other friends with the same values as mine.

I somewhat resent your generalization based on viewers and participants of an, at best fluff television show. I, for one do not watch this program and I certainly don't take that type of programming seriously enough to judge an entire nation by it. Be careful, one might make the same ridiculous generalization about those who actually place importance on such a meaningless entertainment program.

Speak for yourself!!! by the way, civilizations isn't spelled civilisations. Before you start talking about how stupid people are in this country, you might want to use spell check so you don't end up eating your words and your foot.

Part of the problem is that too many people spend their time watching shows like "Big Brother"...whatever that is...I've never seen it. In the U.S...we have "Oprah" who manages to "solve" millennial-age-old problems in 60 minutes...including commercial breaks.

You are being sucked into the Reality TV world. They put dumb people on shows so you will watch them in disbelief about how dumb they are. It's all for ratings man.

Go against it and watch something better.
