Everyone else said 4 for carbs, 4 for protein, and 9 for fat, this is true, but I'd like to add one more,
1 gram of alcohol has 7 calories. Alcohol is bad for diets!

If I remember from med school correctly Energy available from foods are as follows:
1 gram of carb= 4kcal
1 gram of protein= 5kcal
and, drum roll please......
1gram of fat= 9kcal
You can confirm this on the back of any packaged food. It should be multiplied out and all you have to do is divide to get the answers. Example( if the food has 22 grams of fat then the column past that shoud say something on the order of 200 kcal from fat. )
thanks

Chloe's right. One gram of fat contains nine calories. Also, one gram of carbohydrates and one gram of protein each contain four calories. Use these numbers when choosing your menu.
