In exceptional circumstances it is possible to apply for unpaid leave. Your headteacher or LEA should be able to advise of the procedures for this.

No!!!

Obviously you trade off having longer holidays with having any choice over them. Sometimes it is even hard to get a day off for a funeral.

Teacher 'out' in term time may be ill or at meetings- not on holiday.

Well my secondary school teachers seemed to enjoy taking them. I don't know though maybe if it is due to sickness because of stress. But loads of people are always saying teachers get the best holidays.
