Hi there !!!
Sorry to read that you are having anxiety and insomnia, but do not worry things will get better

Chammomile tea, if natual, without caffeine, can help you relax, as well as valerian root.

For anxiety you can find so many remedies, but the trick is to find out first what is causing you to feel this way
Are you currently taking any medications, prescribed or over the counter?
Since when do you have insomnia ?
I would go to a healthcare professional and check first that everything is ok health wise, than you can either take some form of natural herb in a capsule of tea , or take whatever your doctor recomends and see how that goes.

I have found that if I take a warm bath, put on some really comfy pajamas, and not look at the news or anything that could cause me stress before I go to bed, it helps me to relax.
You can try meditation as well.
Wishing you a restful night sleep and a world free from anxiety

love light and peace

Chamomile tea is safe and natural and, of course, contains no caffeine. It's an herb so it's really a "tisane" not a true tea like Lipton (camelia sinensis). It is very good for anxiety, especially if there is stomach upset. One cup may not do you much good, though, and drinking more than that to get to sleep may have you waking up to visit the bathroom.

If you are a caffeine user (lots of insomniacs use caffeine drinks to give them energy during the day) you would do well to stop using it altogether. If you need a pep-me-up, try Siberian Ginseng in capsules or liquid extract. Also take Spirulina as a green drink or in pills. These will give you energy & other health benefits - without the resultant anxiety.

Caffeine definitely contributes to anxiety and may also cause a vitamin B deficiency, leading to more nervousness. Get a Vitamin B-50 Complex from the health food store and take one a day, with food. This vitamin helps the nerve endings heal and it is water-soluable so tea, coffee and soda pop wash it out of the body, making it difficult to get enough in our diets.

For insomnia, the best product I've ever found is called "Deep Sleep" and is made by Herbs, Etc. in New Mexico. It contains California Poppy, Valerian, Passionflower, Chamomile, Lemon Balm, Oat seed. It is attacking the problem from several directions - the nerves, brain & muscle. Here's their website: http://www.herbsetc.com/Conditions/Complete_Index/a.htm

You may also be low on minerals. Lots of people get a good night's rest after drinking a magnesium supplement called Calm, by Natural Vitality. It is especially helpful if there are achey muscles, twitchy legs or ADHA involved.

You can read many articles on the chemical effects of tea.
Perhaps I could offer a suggestion?
A very important part of drinking tea is the ritual.

You should have a pot.
You should have a cup.
And it's nicest to have loose tea, with a tea egg.
My pot has the strainer built in.

The act of heating the water.
Measuring out a kind of tea.
Filling the pot, and waiting for the smell to hit your nose.
Filling the cup (not full) and letting the warm mist hit your face.
Breathe in the good smell.
And then sip it slowly.

The ritual will have a calming effect.

Later, after you have established your ritual,
you can think back to it at any time, reliving this calm.

Enjoy your tea.

I head to a health food store like Whole Foods and talk to someone there about what you are feeling. Teas can have caffeine although chamomile is great for relaxtion as well as Lavender. I would suggest herbs and especially talk to someone as they can be very helpful and knowledgable! Good luck, I've been there and done that!

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!

1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.

2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.

The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.

After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net

Ohhh..and Good Luck!

I take Valerian Root and drink a cup of Chamomile tea or Celestial Seasonings Sleepy Time Tea and 1 calcium tablet. Also try to turn off all noise 1 hour before you want to turn you light off to sleep. Your body needs time to calm down and relax enough to sleep. Hope this helps.

Yes it does help some, but if you are suffering anxiety and insomnia you might try St. John's Wart. It will take it several weeks to do any "real" good, but it will help you. I take it and it does help with mood swings and depression as well. It's like most drugs. It has to build up a tolerance before the affects help.

It will make a non-anxious person feel calmer, but it won't do very much to get rid of anxiety. It certainly won't hurt you though, so give it a try.
Another herb for sleep and anxiety is called Valerian.

(anxiety and sleep problems are caused by a hormone imbalance though- you should see an endocrinologist.)
