Air out the car for as long as possible. Try the coffee ground idea as it might work but I would personally do the following:

Air out the vehicle for as long as possible in a safe place where it won't get stollen. Then use some absorbant disposable shop towels to see if I can soak any of the odor up into it. If I still smell gas then I would buy a bottle of Apple Cider Vinegar and pour or spray as much as I could into my carpet. Then vacuum with a shop vac. Let air out one more time. Hope you have sunshine in your area.

Recipe: Gas smell hand wipes to keep in your vehicle.

Use an old wet hand wipe container and stuff it with good quality paper towels. Then pour in enough apple cider vinegar (ACV) to thourougly wet the towels. Keep them in your car to use after you pump gas. The gas smell comes right off your skin.

I even buy the unscented baby wipes and add 3 Tablespoons of ACV to the bottle and wammy! Instant hand wipes for cleaning my hands after pumping gas. Trust me. Even a pair of gloves can get soaked with gas odor.

Mia 1--- Soak op all the gas you can and clean rugs and upholstery with Simple Green and Resolve. Do this it works wonders. Open windows and let interior dry. Go to a local grocery store and buy shallow tin foil cooking pans. Buy a gallon of white vinegar. Simply roll up all your windows and put the white vinegar in your trays. More trays are better. Within a week the gas fumes will be gone!

If the gas spilled on the floor, remove the floor and let it air out also.
I did the same thing with mine and it really is a son of a gun to get the smell out. It just takes time.

I found some posts online: See which one works best!

*Hello; Someone wrote to me about trying coffee grounds in the trunk to get rid of the gas smell. I left it over night then vacumed it up. A lot of the smell was gone! You may have to try this several times but it does work. Thank you to the lady who sent me this solution!

*You need to use an odor neutralizer like XO or if you can rent an ozone machine in your area that would also remove the smell.

Coffee Grounds
Many truck drivers use coffee grounds to get rid of bad odors from their trailers after hauling fresh onions and other strong smelling loads. As the coffee grounds dry, they absorb odors and leave behind nothing more than the scent of freshly brewed coffee.

Vinegar is another natural product that absorbs and neutralizes all types of odors. Set a bowl of white vinegar in your car to get rid of bad odors left behind after a particularly malodorous mishap. For best results, let the vinegar set undisturbed, after the car has aired out, until the odor has dissipated.

Soak the area thoroughly with a mixture of 1-2 cups plain white vinegar mixed in 1 gallon warm as you can stand water, then use lots of clean white towels and a brick, clamp or something else to add weight (your own tired arms will do, too) to wick out all of the petroleum and water solution. Follow with a rinse of warm water mixed with baking soda (1 1/2 cups per gallon), then again wick out until as dry as you can get it.

First of all. A basic chemical property is that "likes dissolve likes". So, in order to remove gasoline you must use an oil based product. I used Lestoil and water and rubbed it into the gasoline (let it sit for about an hour.) Then, I took detergent (like Tide) with water and rubbed that into the area (let it stand for another hour). Then I used a vacuum cleaner that aspirates water. I dried the whole area (and let it finish air drying about 1/2 hour). Then I poured rubbing alcohol over the whole area and let it air dry for 2 hours. The smell was gone.

before everything, vacuum each and every of the surplus gas out of the trunk. Then wash it down extremely solid with some water and slightly of dish washing cleansing soap (this could help dilute it). Then vacuum back and upload some baking soda. Baking soda does not mask the scent, yet absorbs it. as quickly as back, upward push/wash and vacuum. then you certainly can throw an air freshener back there to spruce it up alittle. Voila!
