A girl I know is dating a total prick that won't be seen with her in public if she doesn't do her hair and make up. She met him for breakfast the other day and wasn't wearing makeup and had just put her hair in a ponytail because she'd worked late the night before and didn't feel like "fixing up."
When she got to the meeting place he said "actually lets just get it to go and go to my place you look like crap."

I said "You're pretty anyway and you shouldn't put up with that- he's not so hot himself"

and she goes

"You don't get it. You just don't understand TRUE love.."

WTF?!?!

I hate to say it, but some woman have what they call battered woman syndrome, they are use to being an abusive relationships and maybe she feels thats what she deserves. It is hard to break out of that cycle. She should really leave this relationship, anyway, to answer your question, yes i agree with you. They do complain, but they really don't want to hear the answer. I would just leave it alone.

I had a friend like this and she never stopped harping about htis ultimate loser she was with. And god forbid i gave her an honest opinion, if she didn't like what i said she got all huffy and defensive. So' everytime she mentioned him i just either said "whatever" or "do what you want" and i refused to discuss him, we weren't friends after that but i was getting to the point where i couldn't stand listening her whine anyways. So good riddance

I had an ex that did that to me, it is totally offensive when someone tells you that you look like crap after going to the trouble of meeting that person, he should be happy she even met him for breakfast, instead of putting her down. That, to me, is NOT love. I agree with you, Jennifer, WTF!! Just being together and enjoying each others' company should have been enough for that jerk. I hope she finds someone better. He sounds like he does not appreciate her. That's sad.

It's unfortunate but many women tend to do this. They can complain about their husband/boyfriend but don't you dare say anything negative about them. I guess they think you're insulting their choice. The best defense is to let her complain and in your friends case, get her feelings hurt, but you need to just listen and be understanding but not say a word. At this point it's easier to be mad at you than at her b/f.

Sounds like her b/f needs a reality check. Your friend shouldn't let her self be treated that way either. But some people need to hit rock bottom before they realize that.

You're right to tell her that sweetie. She's being baffled by the BS of that guy. She's not in love, she's in lust for now. Don't let it get to you just be there for her when it all crumbles down like the true friend you are. (((HUGS)))

It sounds to me like she so does not know what true love is--I just hope it does not take her too long to see him for the jerk he is, she could lose so much of herself in that time

If that anal-orifice can't accept her au natural, then sod him! He just wants an arm-ornament. She may love him, but he certainly doesn't love her (warts and all, as it were).
I don't blame you for being P-Oed. Is she that dim or that desperate?
