I think the album Pop was just awful and beginning of the end for them . They became so commercial and what is there obsession with America?

I know they refer to America in the songs , but they just seemed to have gond wild about it and now they are just crap.

When a person grows older, the taste in music changes. U2 are normal people, the get older, their taste in music changes, and when your taste in music changes, your inspiration is different, and the music you write will be characterized by your new inspiration. That's what happened. No reason to get all hateful and everything. They're just regular people, who likes music. They like making music, they're not just some old fools, desperately searching for some last mainstream acceptance. So don't be that mad, ones taste in music is a very personal thing, and that's no reason to talk disparagingly of them.

Well, considering they've won more Grammy's in the last six years than they have their entire career, I really don't know if you can classify what they're doing now as crap. It may not be your cup of tea, but their last album went multi-platinum and their last tour was a sell-out all over the planet... so apparently there's still a pretty good-sized fan base out there who still loves their music.

I actually liked their last two albums just as much as anything else they've done... including "The Joshua Tree," "Achtung Baby" and "Zooropa." I think their songs changed because they changed and grew older. Not that I think their music sounds old or boring... that couldn't be farther from the truth. I just think it grew with them. They were in their early 30s when they recorded "Zooropa." They're now in their mid 40s... so they're not going to sound the same. But I think they still sound great.

I do have to agree with you on two points. "Zooropa" was a very different and a very good album and "Pop" made me start to worry too. It had a few good tracks on it but when you compare it to typical U2 standards... it's not a very good album.

Mainstream acceptance..they want to reach a wider audience..I don't care one way or the other..I liked The Edge when collaborating with Jah Wobble in the late 70s and the sound they added to Robbie Robertson's 80s records...I just don't care..they are not a rock and roll band anyway...just live cartoons.I do admire their tenacity though..but ...the music's Shite..nothing to do with me.Having said that..the ucnts must generate money for other poor souls...more than I could.

Because they suck? LoL. No. While I'm not a big fan of them I think they're a talented band that has stood through time with catchy pop beats. And I'm guessing it's age. I'm still pretty young but I've noticed some of my favorite bands have changed there style a little. Maybe the boys of U2 feel that by changing there style there opening there fan base to a younger audience.

When ya a young band you write about what you know, if your lucky and make it big, you still write about what you know, but you just know a whole much more different shite!

Sign of the times. Or old age. I liked the old stuff better, too. Back then my kids hated when I played them but now THEY like them and I am not so fond of them. I'd still go see them in person if I got the chance. One of my favorite songs of theirs Is "Sunday, Bloody Sunday".

Bono became an egotistical **** and at around the same time their music began to suffer. It's so commercial now it makes my ears bleed.
