Could it be higher than a BTEC foundation course SPECIFICALLY lighting only (not drama or moving image study), if not suggestions are welcome...

you may be better off researching drama schools, ie RADA or LAMDA or Guildhall. Most University courses you can specialise and this is a better grounding as then you have a degree in Theatre say rather than just lighting. Better even than that, get out there in your local theatre group and get some experience or try and get into a west end show as crew, this will give you a really good grounding, in the industry people want experience, not neccesarily qualifications
