I have wireless right now and it constantly drops connection. I play online poker a lot and I constantly get booted off hands cause of that.

Is cable internet the same, or would it be more reliable and stable? if its more stable I am thinking about getting cable. and one more question: I only live in a rented basement rite now, so if I get cable internet do I have to tell my landlord?

Wireless Internet is the connection between your computer and a router. That router is connected to either DSL or cable. If the connection is dropping, it is most likely between your wireless and the router. If you were to use a cable to the router, rather than wireless, it would probably resolve the drop out issue.

As you are using someone elses Wireless signal, they may also be the ones booting you off. It is illegal to use someone else's signal like that.

You would want to talk to your landlord before having cable installed. It would probably require a hole or two in the wall, floor, or celing. So ask first. But most landlords do not object. Once the cable line is in place, they can up the rent of the next tentant because the line is already there.

Well what kind of connection do you have now? wireless has to be either cable or dsl. Cabled internet is always more dependable than wireless. Talk to your landlord about what isp you have. if you have wireless, then there is a wireless router. In most cases, a wireless router has access so you can run a cable from your computer to the router. this should help with being disconnected.

Broadband Wireless Internet (WiMAX, etc.), especially if you're living in a basement, would likely be very spotty, and I suspect switching to Cable or DSL would mostly clear up the problem. As for talking to your landlord, while you'd only *have* to talk to them if they were the ones paying the cable bill for the building, I would suggest talking to them anyway. Who knows, maybe you could both share a Cable or DSL Broadband connection (which is easy to do and fairly cheap) and then split the monthly bill. In all cases, unless you really hate your landlord, I'd suggest talking to them anyway.

I like Wireless only for the Intranet - like I'm using it in my home. But the main line has to be high speed cable in order to fully enjoy the streaming media so I'll go with it.
