My friend is mixed. Her mom is white and her dad is black. She looks very yellow. Because her mom is born white does that mean she should claim to be white. Or because her dad is black she is considered black? Are there any websites where I can get information?

She's biracial, plain and simple. She should not be required to claim a specific race. She's both and should embrace both, not pick one because of the hue of her skin color.

This sort of thing is the very problem we as a society must work toward fixing. My daugther is 1/2 black, 1/4 vietnamese and 1/4 caucasian. What is she? Just my daughter. That's how it should be anyway.

She is human and probably close to the original color of Humans before the tower of Babel. The nationalities didn't develope until way after creation. First of all the first humans were called what? Earthlings? All humans were the same and I sometimes think that with the way things are going, if left alone, they would all be the same again. Especially since it has become a really small World due to transportation, etc. So no matter what, if you trace your friends genes back far enough, you still wouldn't be able to determine a race. There wasn't such a thing.

If someone is bi-racial, they are not really more one race than the other. In this case, your friend would be an equal mix of both since the parents are categorized into one race and are not bi-racial themselves. I put a census website below for you to look at, but I would check more sociology websites.

I have a friend who's dad is from Nigeria and her mum is white English, her brother and sister are black and she is like snow white with blonde hair. She calls herself mixed race(if asked),as she is married to a white man and they have a black child.
When you come from any race you take half the mothers genetic makeup and half the fathers.

When she had her child she said the midwifes face was a picture when, just pushing the head out she asked what colour it was.

Why can't she claim both? I claim everything that I am simply because it is who I am. However, I identify myself as being an American, because I was born and raised there. We really need to stop racial profiling. What purpose is it? Why can't we identify ourselves from the culture that we are raised in rather than the skin color? I am not German, African American, Irish, Native American and Italian. I am a proud American.
