How old is your hot water heater? You may be getting the spots from minerals or rust inside your heater.

I could only assume that this would be rust stains and other than cleaning the drum I am unsure of what you could do to correct the problem.

Either an old water heater, or you have iron pipes that are releasing rust particles.

Little brown spots are mildew maybe you leave your clothes in the washing machine to long and when they sit little to long they mildew
try taking your clothes out the washing machine right after the washing cycle!

try draining your hot water tank. there is a garden hose type valve on the bottom. hook up your hose and run it outside or to sink and drain.

it is rust use iron out
