Pismires are rather large ants, locally called pi**ants in the South. They bite and the bite is very painful, so someone who is obnoxious (esp. a snotty little kid) is sometimes called a "pi**ant."

It means insignificant or worthless, of no importance. It used to refer to ants, probably equating their smell (formic acid) with urine and their useless back-and-forth activity - see pismire.

Like, someone with say, "F*ck off, you little pi**ant!"

A bit like tw*t, I suppose, but you'd only use it if that person were smaller than you.

"mad" is right - I heard this first on "Police Academy" - Lieutenant Harris speaking to Mahoney, when he's kicking him out of the Academy.
