The astrologers, while preparing the horoscope, take into account the planetary positions at the time of our birth which affect our personalities and consequently our lifes. However, they do not take into account the effect of the nearest planet i.e Earth, which logically should have the greatest effect.

In spite of appearances, any mention of the position of the Sun in the sky is really a measure of the position of the Earth in the solar system, since the Earth orbits the Sun and not the other way around. So your Sun sign is basically a statement of where the Earth was on your birthday.

By the way, I do not believe in astrology. I merely state the astronomical facts. I leave the interpretation of those facts to the believers in astrology.

Since there is no place in Yahoo! Answers reserved for astrology questions, and since the early development of astronomy was done by astrologers (or at least people who made money by casting horoscopes), this question is perfectly appropriate in this forum.

As rightly mentioned by Arkalius, the "art" of astrology has somehow managed to hang-around for 2 millenia. According to olden belief, the Earth was at the centre of the solar system with planets including Sun and Moon revolving around it. So the basic idea behind horoscopes is flawed.

Anyway, coming to answer your question, the ancient system only speaks about the position of those planets AS VIEWED FROM EARTH and that's why our own rotation/revolution was dropped out of consideration. Hope this answers your query...

If you're speaking logically here, then the position of the planets and the sun in the sky has no effect on our personality. Astrology is a superstitious tradition that's managed to last for over 2 millenia somehow. Either way, it has nothing to do with the science of astronomy or space, so it really has no place in this question forum.

Primarily because astrology is a bunch of crap and there's no scientific basis for it. Do you realize because of the changes in the rotation of the earth, the zodiac is about 1.5 months off the signs used for astrology ? Doesn't that speak of its inaccuracies >

Logic is not one of the strong points of astrology.
