It is not true. However, they have more disposable income (not the same as income). This is typically due to the fact that they do not have children to deal with (and pay for)

I don't know that this is generally true, but my opinion is that the fact that they usually have no children or a wife to support makes them have a lot more money left over. They don't necessarily make more, they just have more left. Therefor, they can go out and buy nice houses and cars and whatever else they want. Someone made a comment that they don't spend all their money on booze and women. Uhm, they DO...booze, drugs, men, etc. In that sense they are no different. ANyway, I hope this helped.

They don't. That claim was based on the replies to a survey in a magazine. It was not a scientific study. It didn't occur to anyone that the folks who could afford to subscribe to the magazine might have higher than average income.
I think if you had a real study, and included all the gay people who lose their jobs because of discrimination, you might find that they make less than their straight counterparts.
