With social security in trouble, why does this country devalue people who are older but want to work?

Freedem, interesting point about the higher health insurance charges for older workers. I was not familiar with that fact.

The really big answer is health insurance, an older person who has been in the business for a long time knows more and should expect higher pay, but the insurance companies have started (in the last ten years) to charge based on the age of the workers.

They can hire three younger people at the price of the older persons health insurance alone. So the older person not only loses health insurance when they need it most, but has trouble getting a job as well.

Younger people are easier to manipulate & except lower pay cause of NO saving to maintain or show resistance! Older people are more set in their ways & not so easily fooled! Employers seek out the most vunerable prey! Employers really suck these days they get away with far to much Paying wages that amount to slavery, Firing at will! illegally hiring & encourageing a foreign invasion! Buying legislation or keeping lawmakers in check from enforment of laws to stop this subversion etc etc!

I think that the concept is manipulation. Employers can pay lower wages to younger people because most need to work and a job is a job. You can't do the same with older workers because they are familiar with the tactics of employers.

I think that is changing. I see older workers more and more.

I plan on working until I'm about 70. Working is good for the soul.

Its the I feel good You feel good generation of liberals who, in their infinite wisdom, have seen fit to give illegals SSI from the Social Security funds that they have not paid into. The cost, cut the benefits to the people who earned and paid into it all these years.

If the American people would stand up for one thing, (politicians know that wont happen and laugh at us), that would be make Congress change their retirement from the high dollar expensive one they have and we pay, to Social Security and then, see how fast they fix it.
