Not that long ago there was a college initiation where they made a guy chug gallons of water and he died from water intoxication..the others were charged with manslaughter...now recently a woman died in a contest to see who could chug the most water (to win a playstation for her three kids) I would have never guessed you could die from it!!! How many of you knew????

Yeah, I knew about it. Obviously, it is not a common problem since the medical community is constantly bombarding the public with messages about drinking MORE water. As a population, we are dehydrated. Nonetheless, the clowns that put this together were totally irresponsible for not researching the consequences of this "contest."

I knew, and I have never studied medicine. I just picked it up somewhere along the way that you can't abuse your body with too much of anything - we all know about Gatorade and electrolytes - but I will tell you for absolute certain:

If I were to actually hold a competition of this kind, which would never occur, I would google it. But they didn't have to because many people including medical professionals told them how dangerous it was and that people could die.

I can't fathom how all of those people kept on with it without hesitation.

I have known since I learned about the salinity balance of cells in a biology class. When too much water is put into your system in a short time period, the salt in your cells will travel to the surrounding liquid to try and balance the salinity. The term "water-logged" is the beginning of water intoxication.

I've known it for a long time. I heard years ago regarding an initiation. I still can't believe that no one at the radio station, none of the contestants, and no listeners knew about this.

I knew, too. It stands to reason, if you drink too much of anything, you stand the risk of intoxication.
