I have a phobia (of tornados, hurricanes, or any type of wheater like that) I use to act crazy as I dont know what when I was a kid. Why do people do werid things when they have reached the pinpoint line of where their phobia begins?
What use to happen with mine: (I think I was about 7 or 8 in this one) Mine has, one day I with my 'aunt' and she was watching the news and they were talking about the wheater. I heard something about a tornado warning (but didnt hear it was an area away from us and it was just barely too far for it to reach us) and I went crazy. Tear streaming down my cheeks, the neighbors were probably like 'what the heck is going on at their house' because I was yelling like crazy saying 'I WANT MY MOMMY, GET HER BACK HERE! I DONT WANT YOU AROUND ANYMORE, I WANT MY MOMMY' I ran to the phone an called my aunt seeing as my mom was at work and called her crying into the phone asking her to get me and telling her of the tornado. She laughed it off and I hung up. I continued to cry and scream until it was past my bed time and my eye were bloodshot and my face was all red. My room was halfway destroyed because I would throw the covers off my bed and take every stuff animal out and put it on my bed and finally I went to bed.
(yes, I still have the phobia, its just not that crazy)

Actually it is a phobia, because I am not a child anymore and still react the same way (not as badly but still react sorta like that )

I think they are just there in effect to protect us from what can harm us, even though sometimes its pillows or something ^^. All things originate from something, for example; a woman fell into a hole between rocks as a child and was trapped in a small damp cave and found the next day by a couple hiking. Because of this in later life she is claustrophobic and uncomfortable in small and oftain cramped conditions where she cant move her feet alot, shes also scared of the dark because of what it represents to her. It is Mind over matter in the end isnt it! She assosiates darkness and cramped conditions to the fear she experienced long ago, therefore the body reacts to similair conditions to protect her from letting it happen again! So thats just what i think Unfortunatly i couldnt give you a proper scientific explaination! But your certainly not crazy ^^

Phobias are called such because they are an intense and unreasonable fear of something. Don't worry about how you react to your phobia. I will never kill a spider in my house, because I am terrified to get anywhere near it. I have spent hours sitting on the other side of the room, just watching it.

a phobia is like a quirk of "programming" in the mind, a true phobia can be a crippling experience, like a volcano of anxiety, what you describe isnt a true phobic reaction merely an overreaction to what you percieved as frightening and powerful natural forces way beyond your control, many children experience similiar reactions to a variety of events, some assimilate and learn others develop phobias

Its just a mental thing. I don't know where you live, but if your not near the ocean you have no reason to be affraid of hurricanes. And if your pretty much not in the heart land you have no fear of torandoes. just grow up and realize the real threat of these two is almost zero.

Search your mind for your earliest bad memory. It was then that you developed your phobia. Put that memory to rest once and for all. Tell yourself that your early reaction was a defense mechanism for you to deal with fears then. Realize the source and put it behind you.
