that's an extremely dumb question....right here is why: a million. Roethlisberger gave the owner "permission" to seek for out a head coach???? final I checked QB's had no longer something to do with staffing. 2. What could huge Ben understand approximately what some coach did for Matt Leinhart? Did I leave out some thing are Roethlisberger and Leinart acquaintances? Did they visit the comparable college? 3. verify out the Steelers training historic previous- 2 coaches interior the previous how some years? 30? 35? that's absurd to think of that the Rooney's could ever be that fickle. (As an element be conscious to the fan worried a pair of rookie head coach -- i'm extraordinarily much helpful that invoice the excellent grow to be a rookie head coach) 4. I merely went to the Pittsburgh submit Gazette internet site and searched the call Lane Kiffin and did no longer see your source for this suggestions, what's up with that? so which you're able to desire to respond to the question no longer GONNA ensue!!!

The Steelers always do their homework when it comes to hiring a head coach and I think that they probably got the best man for the job. Mike Tomlin is a highly rated defensive coordinator, like many of their past coaches and at 34 years old, has the experience, desire, and potential to be one of the great coaches in the game. No one ever heard of Chuck Noll or Bill Cowher before they became head coach of the Steelers and look how they did! Noll and Cowher are now both household names and famous for their coaching styles. I honestly can say that we can probably look back at this day and say "How did the Rooneys pick another great coach." It also shows that they gave an opportunity to a minority, but hired him for his ability and potential no matter what color he is.

Although I really wanted Ken Whisenhunt, I think Mike Tomlin is a good choice. He will be a breath of fresh air and he has proven his abilities with Tampa Bay and The Vikings. He is young, but so was Cowher. The Steelers organization NEVER makes hasty decisions and I am sure that they must have a great deal of confidence in him. I am also relieved that they didn't choose Chan Gaily.

I wish they would have hired an offensive guy. Steelers don't need to change up the defense. Steelers are known for their 3-4 defense, but Tomlin prefers the 4-3. I hate to see him come in and change this.

Interesting pick. Going with Def. and Off. cordinators has been a popular choice over the last few years, in contrast to recycling some of the older coaches. If it was my team, I would want experience, I think there are several coaches out there who deserve a 2nd and 3rd chance. Jim Fossel, Denny Green, Jim Mora (the son, not the old man...."Playoffs?"), maybe even a Mike Tice.

Even though I don`t know Mike Tomlin I think he would be okay as a new head coach and if it`s his first time as a head coach he should be encouraged.

I totally agree with Stingray, that would have been my answer as well. The Steeler organizations track record speaks for itself as far as the longevity of the "coaches' reign"...obviously the Rooney's know what they're doing!
Hopefully it won't take numerous seasons for the team/coach chemistry to kick in. They've had enough changes this past season in their line ups on the field that threw a wrench in the chemistry.
I will miss "The Chin" though...I hated to see him go!
As far as Roger's comment above....what a dork! LOL ;-)

Good move as the Vikings were very good on defense. At least they didn't hire their "offensive" coordinator. lol
