Just bought a house that has a above ground swimming pool. I know nothing about the upkeep, cleaning and basic maintenance of swimming pools. Are there any good web sites, books, or suggestions to get me started in the right direction?

The library is overflowing with pool maintenance manuals. Try google too, typing in pool maintenance as a keyword. The most important thing is keeping the water balanced, as in ph. If there is not a chemical test kit somewhere around the house, you can get one at any pool supply store. The kit comes with instructions and ideal water conditions are color coded. You may want to drain the pool at some point, for cleaning or maintenance, and you will need to know local ordinances for the disposal of chemically treated water. If there is no cover, get one. If there is no fence around it, get one of those too. Not all areas require that above ground pools be fenced in for security, but this does not relieve the homeowner of responsibility if someone gets into the pool and drowns.

no longer understanding what type of pump you've,or pool be it above or below floor., no matter if that is an above floor, turn your pump lever to sparkling clear out.. it probably hasen't been executed for a lengthy time period and the clear out, sand and all is dirty, run that till your water runs sparkling, it is executed on the outdoors of your pool, good success and revel in.
