I think the idea of an alien race is a just humans hypothetically forecasting where the human race will be in the future. These hypothetical forecasts then turn into a self fulfilled destiny. So really we are underdeveloped aliens but give us time and will be floating around in our ships checking out other planets outside this solar system. Star track, Star wars, Total recall.

We tend to think everything from our own perspective. Since we are the most intelligent species (?) on this planet, we think that all intelligent species would resemble us. That need not be the case. It is difficult to guess how aliens would look like. It is even more difficult to guess whether alien life exists!

Might be huge *** bloodthirsty centipedes
Depends on how thier planet has forced them to evolve

Humans have few physical advantages, we dont have a compressible skeleton like rodents, we dont have claws, we cant run all that fast compared to other animals, we have our hands which give us a good ability to manipulate objects, but racoons and monkeys have those too, our only really unique evolutionary edge is superior brain capacity that allows us to adapt and outhink, and hunt physically superior species,

So alien craures may not have had the need for better mental capabilities, maybe there is a species that gained higher brain function for the same reasons as us, or maybe the physically superior predators killed them off before they could evolve

The odds of other inteligent life being ou there is one in a billion, but the universe is infinite,
so infinity/0.0000000001 the chance of there being other intelligent life accoring to that equation is infiately high

Or at least thats the optimistic way of looking at it

Hmm not attracting many serious responses.

Well that could be because its basically impossible to tell what alien life could look like - you think science fiction movies are really imaginative until you see life from the bottom of the sea and realise what wonders are really out there.

Having said that I think any intelligent life would have to have some kind of hand or prehensile tentacles because to develop technology you have to be able to, at the very least, create fire and move things with your 'hands'. If they evolved from 4 legged creature they'll be likely to have 2 'arms' since they'd need to be freed up to grasp things before technology could develop. So, in a sense the makers of star trek didnt get it as wrong as people always complain though I doubt they'd be so similar that a bit of makeup could make a human being look like them.

That last bit assumed their ancestors would have four legs though, they might have 10 or zero, move about like slugs or snakes or some other method we're unaware of. It's really futile speculating about it as anything we come up with is likely to be way off.

There was a book on amazon called 'what do aliens look like' though I haven't read it, it probably addresses the question you're talking about in a lot more detail.

Depends on the composition of their home planet,
If the gravity is heavy then they will a small average height. If the gravity is light, then the average height will be much higher. Also depends on the gaseous make-up of the atmosphere and how they extract the gases from the biosphere you can go and on. They evolution depends entirely on the make-up of they home planet, just like use. Allow your imagination to run free. What type of star the planet revolves around is also critical and the light wavelengths that hit the planet, low light, large eyes bright light mechanism for protection will have evolved.

An alien"n looks would have to be based on some sort of DNA.
If you consider the looks of all the species on earth you can imagine how many different ways aliens could appear.

What do earthlings look like?

Apes?
Fish?
Mice?
Snakes?

If there is life out there it is quite a good chance that it would be as varied as the earths. The actual appearence of any of the species would be controlled by the evoloutionary enviroment they developed in.

If the conditions on their planet mirrored the earths maybe they would be similar to our planets life foms. (but with laser eyes?)

I don`t know why some people bother to answer, especially when they should be at school or out at work. Anyway, if you look at the diversity of animal life on this planet I think that the chances of someone or thing from anoher planet looking like anything on this world would be pretty remote.

who's to say the human race isn't just an experiment that went wrong, carried out by beings from another planet and they have been coming back to get updates on the project and that's why there are abuctions as they need DNA, blood and stool samples.
This would make us the aliens.

I don't know that I really believe in aliens but I am assuming that there is a reason for the way we portray them with the long fingers and huge eyes and no clothing. Too many people have claimed to have been abducted, which is kinda creepy. Please don't say your an alien.
