Yes I have all the volumes on full but for some reason the second I am playing a DVD from a shop, it gets so quiet I find myself putting on the subtitles. Is there a way of tricking to laptop into making in louder or is there a programme I should use?
I'm using PowerDVD to watch.
Thank you.

As I said I have trid all the volumes.
And it affects all my DVDs. The DVDS I burn my self do tend to be at the write levle, but sound funny when played in a cinima, as they are somtimes to loud.
I know I'm not the only person with this problem.

I don't want to add speakers. Music plays very loud on my lap top anyway, so it's not the speakers. And I want to fix this as I am trying to watch films on my laptop on airoplains with earphones; and they are too quiet too. Do I reall have to rip the DVD to my hard drive each time befor watching them to view them?

Does Power DVD have its own volume control. This will limit the volume to the computer even though the Windows volume control is at its highest level. This is certainly the case with InterVideo DVD.
Have you tried playing your DVD through Windows Media Player - this might help.

Well, you should try going to the little toolbar at the bottom right corner of the screen (where the clock is), see if there is a Speaker, double click it, and make sure everything is Maxed. out. If you don't see the speaker in the bottom right corner, then go to start then click, all programs, accessories, then entertainment, then volume control. Max. it out and you should hear everything full blast!!
Hope that was helpful!

Try opening it in Windows Media Player or some other DVD software. It may just be a PowerDVD problem.

a lot of DVD players on pcs have a built in compressor.
this essentially limits all the volumes so you don't get a really quiet bit and then a really loud bit like we get in the cinema.
go throuh your options and look for a 'quiet' mode or something of a similar name. then turn it off.
either that or use a different app to play dvds

Check on your dvd drive itself if there is a little wheel that you can use to increase the volume.
What do you mean by playing a DVD from a 'SHOP'? If this is not a 'real' movie DVD, then it may have been burnt with a poor audio setting.

you could try enhancing the sound with a program called DFX...they have it for a number of media players, go to www.fxsound.com to download the applicable version.

have you checked the volume on accessories, entertainment on the start menu?
Also, your DVD player should have a volume control on it somewhere, you should be able to alter that easily
