Basically where a player makes a mistake that was truely their mistake, rather than the result of pressure by their opponent having forced the error. So it could be that the ball is hit out of court or into the net quite unexpectedly.
Bear in mind that there's also an element of subjectivity as to whether an error is unforced, e.g. if someone's serving for a match and is under pressure, a mistake could be classed as unforced, when actually it was the pressure of the moment rather than the pressure from the opponent's shot that forced the mistake.

It's when a player hits the ball out, but not because they were returning a really difficult shot. So if one player smashes a great passing shot and the other player manages to get their racket on it and returns it wide, that would be considered a forced error. If they are returning a relatively easy shot and are aiming for just inside the line and it goes out, that would be an unforced error.

An unforced error is when the player has an easy shot well within reach that he would normally execute accurately, but hits it out or into the net. It was him that made the error.

Its an error like hitting the ball into the net or out, when your opponent has not put you under pressure by making you run or reach for the ball.
