were much needed when they first arrived on the scene in the eighties, a change from all the electronic music that was about. they became a bit too comercial for myself but that's only my opinion, and what can you say against the biggest group in the world. they're doing plenty right. you can't criticise them

When U2 started back in 1980, they done some damn good stuff, the "Boy" album was superb, but for the last 20 years or so they have been writing absolute tosh. Many bands improve with age but U2 definately DONT fall into that category!!

Loved the early stuff as it seemed much more genuine, heartfelt and inventive. Not been so keen on them from 'Achtung Baby' onwards. I think Rattle and Hum and The Joshua Tree made them SO famous that their egos got too big and Bono started pretending he was 'The Fly' in those sunglasses (ok, like you do) and now he seems to believe he is a political world leader, meeting with the pope every five minutes and spouting off everytime there's a camera around like nobody else is bothered about it but him. Just wish they would go back to the music, writing stuff that wasn't so 'fake sounding', (ie. the stuff they did before the money and fame made them sell out bigtime and go all Las Vegas on us. The image became much more important than the music) I know they have calmed it down a bit since, but the tunes just aren't the same anymore. It just seems like they are knocking them out because the record company are asking where the album is rather than any genuine love of the music itself. Sorry to go on about it, but you did ask and this is my honest opinion.

Boy, there are a lot of as*holes out on Yahoo! Answers who really hate Bono, aren't there?

I love U2... they've been my favorite band for over 20 years. I think whether you like them or not, you have to agree they obviously have staying power. Hey, I can't stand Bon Jovi but I'll give them props for staying power.

I think people don't like them because their either not smart enough to understand their music or their just jaded as*holes who think rock music should never be political or spiritual. But after 26 years, over 40 million albums sold and more Grammys than has ever been awarded to one band, you really can't say they suck or that their music is sh*t. If you do, it just comes across as someone who is closed-minded and refuses to accept the fact that some music is good even if it doesn't apply to your personal tastes.

Anyone who syas that U2 are rubbish clearly does not have a clue about music, and shouldn't express an un-researched opinion. U2 are legendary. WAR, JOSHUA TREE and RATTLE & HUM are exquistite, groundbreaking albums but yes their newer stuff is much more poppy and instantly forgettable.

Bono is most definitely an idiot with a god complex. I wish He'd get off my telly.

Having pretty much grown up along with them, I have to say they're terrific. I've seen them live 8 times over the past (gasp!) 20 years...I keep saying each time.."okay, enough, you've seen them too many times", but I keep coming back because there's nothing like them live...the whole place just becomes energized. So while many may have grown tired of them, I am very glad they've been around to mark different points in my life.

Absolutely p!sh. And getting worse as the years go on.

I'd give my wages for the next year to Africa for the chance to jump up and down on Bono's head. Smug b@stard.

Sorry if they're you're favourite band ever, but besides a few great songs over the years i find them a bit too anthemic and dull.
