Can someone help me state with reasons whether the following list have dipoles or not and if they do which direction they are in?

H20
Br2
BeBr2
HBr
CCl4
CHCl3
NCl3
BBr3
CO2
CH3OH

Thank you

You need to know the electronegativity and VSEPR modelof the elements to determine if there is a dipole.

There is only a couple I can be sure of without looking them up
H2O ... to Oxygen
NCl3...to chlorine
CH3OH...to Oxygen
are dipoles

if there is an electronegativity difference and the molecule is unsymmetrical there wil be dipole moment.
H2O is bent-will have adipole moment
Br2-homo nuclear diatomic- no dipole
BeBr2-linear, symmetrical-no dipole
HBr-electronegativity differece-polar-has dipole
CCl4-symetrical-no
CHCl3-unsymetrical-has dipole
NCl3-symmetrical-no
BBr3-symetrical-no
CO2-linear-symmetrib\cal-no
CH3OH-has dpole

Do your own research ... especially if this is your Physics Homework (how will you know if we give you the correct answer ?)
