My dog

Some previous answers have mentioned Dysons. I bought a Dyson and although the suction is good, you find that that's about the only good thing about it (and very colourful). They are very plasticky and the plastics used are prone to cracking and are very expensive to replace. I would avoid Dysons.
You did not mention preference for a upright/cylinder/combined, domestic/industrial. A hoover repair man recommended the 'Henry' (with a face on it) cleaner as one of the best for domestic cleaning. Check out Sebo & Panasonic models.

I have used Dyson & Kirby & many more but the best I have ever used is my trusty red Henry cleaner I have had it for at least 5 years it has never broke down & is as good as the day I bought it. So I will always stick with my little Henry!

Well, for me it has to be the Vax . I have the one that deals with pet hairs too (got lotsa pets!), it also washes carpets and furniture and it's great! It's the best hoover that we have had...more expensive but worth it.

I'd go for a Dyson, if you go to their website dyson.co.uk you can answer questions on the your requirements such as the types of flooring you have, whether you have pets/allergies etc and they'll recommend the best model for you.

Justin Hawkins or Pete Doherty.

Seriously a Dyson would be good.
