Graves are dug in the winter months, even with the ground frozen, a backhoe tractor is used to do this, it just takes a bit longer to dig when the ground is frozen.

I have heard of certain places in the world where they do have to wait until the ground thaw's because the frost will be as deep as 6' in the ground. Normally it's only about 6 to 8 inches and can be dug through with a backhoe.

I take care of a small cemetery in the western states, and bury people all winter long.

They do have funerals in the winter, people don't stop dieing do they? It just is harder because they have to thaw the ground first, but they have special equipment to do it. I'm not sure where you live that they don't bury the bodies.

Phew! I thought you'd committed a crime. I guess if the ground is frozen solid the body will be kept at the morgue until a grave can be dug.

Are we talking about these days?In times gone by that use to happen, but as far as i know a small "digger" is used in graveyards, finished off by hand.I surpose where it is very cold and with snow and ice, they have to be stored. You have got me thinking now.

Yes you can bury in winter time. We do around here anyways.

thats a good question, I would think that they would just store the body until the grave could be dug for the coffin and body.
