weight gain, fundal height measuremants, and ultrasounds are all good indicators of fetal weight.

They do an ultrasound, measure the babies leg bones, skull, ect and use a formula to guess the baby's weight. Let me warn you though, although they say it can be "off" by a half pound either way, I had this done with my first baby and they were off by over TWO pounds! I had a c-section based on the information that I had received (that my baby would be over 10 pounds) and when they handed me that 8 pound baby I wished I would have just waited and let him come on his own!

Ultrasounds can help determine the weight (though its not always accurate). They're also fairly good at giving you an estimate by feeling the baby when they check the babys position.

Through ultrasound!! They take measurements of the baby and then determine the size and weight..

It's just a best guess. They're often wrong by as much as a pound either way.

they are never 100% sure, just a guess, but they go by the measurments when they do your ultrasounds
