Ive been having trouble with my 87 Bronco ll.When I apply the break the car jerks and the rpms drop and shoot back up like its going to cut off.It only does it when Im in high gear coming to a stop.
The pedal is also pushing back when I stop, it kinda jumps up and down like ABS does...but I dont have ABS.I am tring to narrow it down between the Torque converter and break booster. The clunk i hear when I stop says its the TC but the putter in the pedal says vacuum to the break booster.I took it to the dealer who discovered that my EGR tube is cracked and says that this should clear up the problem-NOT.This is not and exhaust problem im dealing with.

your brake booster is vacume powered, so any vacume leak, even at the egr could cause your brake pedal movement.

I know for a fact that sometimes your brake rotors will get warped. Even if your brake pads have plenty of life left to them it wouldn't hurt to take the rotors off and over to a machine shop or parts store and see if the turn true or not. If they are warped then you will need to purchase new pads as well. Otherwise they will not break-in properly if you use your old pads with your newly turned rotor. Also if I were you I would check the brake pistons in your front calipers and make sure they aren't seized up. An easy way to do this is to just take off your wheels and turn them and see if they turn without any problems. Check your rear brakes as well. and try turning them with the brake drums on them. That way you can narrow down if it's a siezed/faulty brake cylinder or your master cylinder that is bad. FYI if your torque converter on your transmission was bad your Bronco wouldn't be shifting properly at all and more than likley your fluid wouldn't be very red anymore and you would see little metal shavings in your trans. pan if you took it off or even on your dipstick. Go as far even as to check out your Universal joints on your driveshaft and your carrier bearing on your driveshaft.

circulate slowly below the motor vehicle and take a targeted seem on the interior area of the brakes...seem for fluid. If the wheel cylinder on between the brakes failed, it may produce the unexpected give way of the pedal you describe. And, dropping the fluid could make the sunshine come on. Repairing the wheel cylinder is a diy activity.

Sounds like a vacuum booster leak, that is drawing brake fluid. Check your brake fluid level. If low replace power brake booster unit.
