I do many motorway miles as a van courier and have noticed some HGV drivers leave a rear door open when parked up. Why is this? They are not necessarily refrigerated trucks that need airing now and then. Any ideas / trucker's out there that can shed a bit of light?

Yeah i know when they are parked up in built up areas they leave the back doors open so people know the vehical is empty, you will notice that most of these vehicals are curtain siders, so to spare the cost of repairing the curtains after some moron has slit the curtain to find the vehical empty, most companies allow the driver to leave the rear doors open.

i've got have been given this chum who will park on the very edges of a carpark to dodge people who will swing their doorways into her vehicle, leaving dents in the back of. this may be what those human beings are doing, thinking they are saving their vehicle from dents. or maybe they are smoking, being that smoking has been banned in relatively some places. i'm confident even a smoker does not decide for to take a seat down of their vehicle, with the doorways closed, inhaling their own 2nd hand smoke. Or it must be what you pronounced, or in step with risk a mix of all the above. possibly ask somebody, next time you spot it happen. with any luck, they gained't think of you're rude, and poke you interior the nostril! whats up, possibly they are airing out their automobiles considering they had cabbage for lunch! <*)))><

If the door is open it proves to potential thieves that the container is empty so there is no point in breaking in.
