I need some advice on what to do. Before I graduated from doing my BA I was absolutely DREADING entering the workforce. I knew that I would'nt like the 9 - 5 job and now that I'm working as an assistant, well, its 9:30 - 5:30. I REALLY hate these hours, it's a real problem, I wake up crying when the alarm goes off. Does anyone have a real advice on how I can continue to endure this? Serious answers appreciated.

I hated My job, I am a teacher the teaching profession has gone to HELL. Teachers were in the building singing Chicken Noodle soup with the kids.teacher were stealing from other teachers. Then yelling at the kids for stealing. I use to wake up and cry I got sick of it. I quit. It was way too stressful. find another job and do not stop until you are happy where you work. You spend as much time at work and with your co-workers as you do with your family and you need to be happy there. if it's your hours your environment whatever it is change it I hope I helped. By the way Chicken Noodle Soup is a rap song not a kid song.

I am not the first one but I say it anyway: It's not the hours you dread, it's the job. I used to oversleep so bad in my first two jobs beacuse I just couldn't get myself out of bed for the rat race. Then I found a job I actually wanted, which was not sold to me by my mum as "a solid, good career decision". So I finally stood on my own feet, and never looked back - I actually wake up before the alarm now and jump out of bed.

OK, it meant to quit my current position and to go on the dole whilst looking for that dream job. Easy? Nope! It's just so comfortable in that salary trap. But better to end a bad thing than to endure it and to one day become complacent and hollow.

Took a long time to figure out what I was looking for... what job did I choose? Desktop Publishing Technichian. But that's just me, everyone is different and needs to find that vocation ("being called to") for themself.

Good luck, you are entering into a new world of endless opportunities - the world is your oyster!

You need to find a job you are happy with. Think of a career change, with shorter hours. Or if you found the right kind of job you probably wouldnt mind the hours if you were happy enough. You are clearly unhappy at the moment. You need to take a look at what it is you want and plan around it. What hours would you like to work? Would you like to work from home? Do you need a complete carreer change? Best of luck, with whatever you decide!

I had to laugh at what you said about waking up crying, but I honestly can relate. I have never been a nine to five girl myself. I think it's unnatural to be rudely awakened by a noise. Bill Cosby once said that human beings should rise naturally when their eyes pop open, and I agree. I suggest you search for a job with hours that are more suitable for you. Think about what you like to do, whether it relates to your degree or not. Sometimes just having a degree opens doors to other jobs that you wold least expect. Good luck.

Why don't you go back into education, maybe do a post-grad course, you don't say what your degree was in or what your current job is - assistant to what / whom?

Are you depressed, should you see your GP?

It can be a huge strain leaving education and starting work for the first time, maybe you should give yourself some more time to settle into the work routine?

You could always work as a hotel auditor, or maybe a night manager of a bigger hotel or casino, if you have them in your area, they have night hours or even mid shift (3-11 or 4-12). I know how you feel, I am not a morning person either, thats why I work the midnight shift... Good luck!

Nothing you can do about it other than get used to it. The very nature of work means that you have to do a set number of hours. Everyone else would probably prefer to work maybe 11 - 3 but it can't be done....Sorry but it's just how it is...

You have to start looking for another job NOW. Others may be right - it's not the hours, it's the job. As soon as you have made the decision and started looking for another job, the tears should cease because you will be on your way. Don't waste your precious youth being bored to tears, darling !

Get a job like mine in sales when you can work your own hours and determine you own income. It may take you time but you've only just started out on your career path so remember time is on your side and if you want it enough you will get the job you deserve and desire.
