Replace the fans. You can find a new CPU Fan and new Power supply (which includes the FAN) at http://www.newegg.com

Good luck and Happy Computing!

As previous answers have suggested, it's the fan(s) or hard disk. Before you try anything, back up your disk with a disk imager (e.g Acronis). That will allow you to restore very quickly. Even if it's not the hard disk, it's a good idea to have an up-to-date backup.
If you know how to open your PC, look for the fan that cools the CPU which is fixed over it. If it's spinning, earefully use a piece of cardboard to stop the fan (for a short time 2-3 secs). If the noise goes away, it's the culprit. Replace it (see www.microdirect.co.uk if you're in UK). If not, listen if it's from the power supply. You should be able to hear if it's the fan from the PSU (you can even stop the fan from the grill to check if it's the culprit). Some graphics card have fans as well, so check them too.
If you eliminate the above possibilites and still get the noise, you have a more serious problem. Your HD is on it's way out. Back up like I said, and replace it. It's not too difficult these days with good software.

It is most likely one of two things. your fans (the bearings in them can make a lot of noise even if it is clean) or your hard drive might be noisy. The only other hting that might mak noise would be the cd/DVD players if they have somthing in them or they are broken. Literally put your ear to the system - there is likely 2 - 3 fans on your system. There is usually a fan just for the CPU and then another for the case. Then sometimes some extras. If you are not sure take the cover off and find it. I'll bet it is a fan though!

Hi,
Common causes: Cable resting on fan - This makes a very loud noise, move all cables away from fan.
Hard Drives can sometimes make a noise if they are failing, though not as loud as you suggested.
Try checking if your hard drive or cdrom are screwed in properly, they can sometimes come lose, and rattle against the case.

Hope this helps.

It sounds like you may need a new cooling Fan but you would not know unless you opened the case to see. At which time you could momentarily disconnect the CPU cooling Fan to see if that is what is cause the noise.
The cost of a new Cooling Fan is very in expensive.

If you can open the cover of your CPU then check those fans (ie Fan Cover, Processor Fan etc) if its running fine OR see if there are cables touching the blades.

OR

It might be your hard disk meaning the hard disk is making noise because its going bad.

It could be your hard drive getting ready to crash or your fan could be getting worn. Have you tried taking the side off and turning it on to isolate where the noise is coming from?

do you've abode windows vista, because its ability button (on the starting up menu) in user-friendly words places the component to sleep. in case you want to close down you should bypass to the arrow next to the lock and click close down manually... nonetheless do not recognize why they replaced what wasn't damaged.
