Does you start menu and everything else work? If so try doing a refresh of the desktop. That may bring everything back. If not then check all of your desk top options as some of them may have gotten turned off.

If you press your "Windows" key, does the Task bar Come up ?
You will probably have to boot into safe mode and try and restore all settings from that Point.
Alternatively, Use your Install CD, and rebuild from there.

Assuming that it not in any respect took 1/2-hour on your laptop to seem on start up, I recommend searching at what you've on your startup. particular applications would reason your device to carry on start up, and extra often than no longer those applications are secret agent/malware-appropriate. without understanding what OS or hardware you've, my maximum acceptable answer might want to be to get rid of unnecessary, and or presently put in classes out of your computer. Reboot to work out if that fixes your difficulty. in the adventure that your computer continues to be sluggish to start up, you'd be contaminated with some computer virus.
