I am eclectic. I'm in a sea of bible thumpers so having a coven isn't really safe unless you're in the big cities. I'm a minor anyways, so I couldn't join until I'm older.
EDIT: To Rev. Two Bear: Ferri (Feri, Faery, Fairy, etc.) is not just for gay men. Faery is a Celtic trad, and has both genders with varying sexualities.
And thank you for bringing attn. to the fact that being pagan (or any other minority religion) is NOT safe in the bible belt. I have an asatru friend who got arrested for going out with some ritual tools to the TVA trails. It's rather sad really.

I am not wiccan; but There are several different traditions.
Gardnerian, Seax, Dianic, a tradition for gay men (ferri if memory serves. Then there are the solitary practitioners that do not follow any tradition.
There is one other trad that I can not think of right now; but this man started another trad in the 50s after Gerald Gardner went public.
tahirih's answer above is absolutely correct.
It is not safe to have a different opinion about God in the bible belt. I lived in the Bible belt for most of my life, and in 1998 Two "Christians" threatened my safety for practising Qigong (chee gong), and in September1999 the sheriff of Hickman county, and several Tennessee State police arrived on a farm were a Wiccan gathering was happening. T
here was a total of 11 patrol cars of police showed up and came out with guns drawn just because some religious NUT called in a complaint "There are some Satanists on the farm next door that are killing babies."

The biggest problem here is that of definition. "Paganism" is not a religion. It's a collection of different religions. So you can't give it an age (some pagan religions are very old, but some are very new) and you can't state that certain beliefs or practices are specifically "pagan," since different pagans believe and do radically different things. "Lived by the earth"? Everyone does that. Unless you've been to another planet. yes, pagans lived by agricultural seasons. So did Christians. Following the seasons is something that lets you survive. It's not religiously driven. It's a basic part of life for *everyone*. Wicca is one of many pagan religions. All Wiccans are pagans, but most pagans are not Wiccans. Just because someone uses some elements of Wicca does not make them Wiccan. Circle casting comes from ceremonial magic. Many non-Wiccan groups do it. Many neopagans celebrate some or all of the sabbats, although not always in the same context as Wiccans. This both because Wicca was influential in the development of neopaganism and because Wicca itself borrowed older holidays (although put them in a new context). "Doing magic" is not Wiccan. Lots of people from lots of religions and cultures do magic. Most religions use altars. Ever been to a Christian church? There is almost always an altar at the front of the sanctuary. It's a very common religious tool. Finally, acting like a Wiccan doesn't make you a Wiccan, just as me going to church doesn't make me a Christian. Her practices may resemble Wiccan ones, but in her mind she clearly understands them differently or uses them in a different context or knows she rejects a fair amount of Wiccan beliefs. She feels it is most appropriate to label her beliefs eclectic pagan, and you should respect that. 'Wicca" probably includes ideas or practices she disagrees with, even though she does share some ideas with Wiccans.

My husband and I are both eclectic. For the most part we work just the two of us but for sabbats we work with a group of mixed pagans becuase there are not enough Wiccans here to make up a coven
